The City of Columbus takes great pride in its observance of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  The Martin Luther King Breakfast Committee, Inc. invites the public to the Columbus signature King Holiday event attended by thousands of diverse supporters.  The largest event of its kind in the United States honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  Join us at the 30th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Breakfast on Monday, January 19, 2015 the national holiday commemorating Dr. King the fallen civil rights leader. Tickets will be sold in advance and will not be available at the door.

  Dr. Julius R. Scruggs | Keynote Speaker  
  President (2009 - 2014) of the National Baptist Covention, USA, Inc.  
For the last five years, as president of the National Baptist Convention USA Inc., Dr. Julius R. Scruggs, has given voice and focus to the influence and spirituality of estimated 7 million members of the nation's largest predominantly African-American denomination.
  • He has been invited to the White House numerous times.

  • He preached at former President Jimmy Carter's request as one of just eight ministers for a special Baptist summit.

  • He's admired nationally, respected in theological academia and beloved locally by the members of his own congregation, First Missionary Baptist Church in Huntsville, Ala., where he is senior pastor.
Dr. Julius R. Scruggs' five-year term as president of the powerful National Baptist Convention USA is drawing to a close. He has been president of the 7 million member National Baptist Convention since September 2009.
